Peru and Colombia

Here is a breakdown of our trip to Peru. If you have 24 days to travel around this country, you can follow our itinerary. If you have fewer, you can do part of it.

The first section of the trip was planned in advance from the UK, as far as day 11 (Cuzco). It is advisable to book Macchu Picchu well in advance to avoid disappointment and then organise the rest of the trip around those dates.

From day 12 onwards it was all improvised once on sight, following tips from other travellers and the levels of tiredness (bear in mind that the first two weeks are very full on!)

 All in all, it worked out very well.

No matter what the length of your journey is and your availability of the time, one thing is for sure: you have to visit this beautiful country sooner or later!

Day 12	Touristic bus Wonder Cuzco to Puno   Stopped at several places on the way (Andahuaylillas and its beautiful church, Raqhi and its archaeological site, Sicuani, La Raya, this is the highest point of the drive (4,300 metres) and Pukara, with more archaeological sites.   Visit of Puno in the evening	Mosok Inn- Puno	Highly recommended. It is a day full of interesting sights. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
Day 13	Lake Titikaka   Uros islands and Isla Amatani   Travel by bus (Puno-Arequipa) left at 22:30 and arrived at 4:30 in the morning.	Night bus	As we had been advised by other tourists, one full day at Lake Titikaka was enough.
Day 14	Visit of Arequipa Cathedral, town centre, monastery of Santa Catalina	Hostel Solar- Arequipa
Day 15	Colca Canyon- 3 am departure	Oasis of Sangalle	This could be done independently and not through a tour.   However it is not expensive, so it’s quite good to meet new people.

Day 17	Rafting in a mountain near Arequipa (organised through the hotel) *   Travel by bus (Arequipa-Lima) departure from Arequipa at 16:30	Night bus
Day 18	Travel all day Travel by bus (Lima- Trujillo)	Arrive at Trujillo at 2 am. Hotel Condado (Trujillo)

Day 20	Tour of city centre. Touristic bus Visit of Chan Chan Visit of the beach town called Huanchaco	Hotel Condado (Trujillo)	Huanchaco is a good place to try to surf. There are several surfing schools for very reasonable prices.
Day 21	Huaca de la Luna and Huaca del Sol. Relax in Trujillo. Travel by bus (Trujillo- Chimbote) at 20:30	Hotel Viera (Chimbote)	Chimbote is not a pretty town. It could be skipped.
Day 22	Chimbote in the morning and Playa de Tortugas in the afternoon   Travel by bus (Chimbote- Lima) at 23:00	Exclusiva night bus (Chimbote- Lima)	Exclusiva night buses are very comfortable. Highly recommended.
Day 23	More Lima   Miraflores all day Bike tour Larcomar shopping centre Cinema and dinner	*	Good idea to spend a few, relaxing days in Lima at the end of our trip.
Day 24	Choco Museum Museo Archeologico Larcomar shopping centre.		Try out paragliding. It is really good fun!
