Our 20,000 steps-a-day trip to Cornwall

The mere thought of Cornwall and Devon conjures up the images of a postcard: rugged cliffs and white-pebbled beaches, narrow, winding roads and quaint little towns perched on the hills:  as usual, there is only one way for us to find out whether that’s true or not: book a train, arrange a car rental, book at least 4 Airbnbs in at 4 different towns along the coast of Cornwall: and set off for the next road trip.

April half term tends to be spent further away, in some exotic place overseas (if we’re very lucky) or back home in Italy or France (if we are mildly lucky). Now, the 2020 taught me a new word: Staycation, and this year staycation it is!

Lockdown has also geared us up to unlock our trekking potential, so our mission for this trip was to walk (at least) 20,000 steps a day, our motto being: the more the steps, the greater the discovery!

The weather has been just wonderful, basically every single day apart from day 1 in the Dartmoor Reserve. I think we’ve just been too lucky!

Here is a summary of this trip: (walks highlighted in yellow)

Day 1: 26,774 steps: Exeter (walk around the city Green Cicle walk)

Day 2: 21,547 steps: Dartmoor Reserve (Castle Drogo round walk- Tavistok), arrival and dinner in Boscastle
